How to live in and for peace? How to dialogue? How to make decisions in common? These are some of the questions that have led the debates of thousands of young people who have been working these last two years on the theme “Peace under construction: Making decisions together for a new civilization.”
Learning how to dialogue and make decisions together is the concrete way to build peace that has been outlined in the Manifesto that the World Youth Parliament (WYP) has presented at the Pontifical University of Salamanca. 120 young people from America, Africa, Asia and Europe (representatives of more than three thousand young people from 31 countries) have worked from July 28 to August 4 at the final drafting of this document that includes the life and commitment of each one of them.
“Despite being a shy person, I have realized that dialogue is an important foundation on which our relationships with others are based; and that knowing how to express our ideas and emotions without wanting to impose our point of view is essential for living together”, says Elena Giometti, an Italian participant in this international session of the WYP.
For Patricia Isla, a Spanish participant, “the most important moment was undoubtedly the signing of the final Manifesto, as a sign of the commitment and responsibility of each one of us!”. After the solemn moment when all young people signed the Manifesto, the announcement came that the venue for the 2021 edition will be in Quito (Ecuador), and that the theme will be: “The relationship between freedom of opinion, freedom of expression and respect for the conscience of the person.”
